Berlin is a haven for outcasts, queer folks, and weirdos of all shapes. And as every earth needs its moon, every sub-culture needs its four walls to take place. It's through the creation of spaces providing a safe environment for whatever form of personal expression we might be looking for that we manage to develop ideas and attitudes that equip us with the conviction that we as minorities have the right to a share of this world. Within these safe spaces (created by and for our communities for those otherwise riddled by the pressure of heteronormative constraints) can we find comfort and enjoy a moment of relief. It's here that a drag performer can point to the obsurdity of norms through genderfucking performances. It's here that a queer poet can recite about their path towards sexual liberation without fearing purposefull misunderstanding or laughter. We build these safe spaces together as a community, and as long as the „invisible“ reigning heternormative, capitalist hand won't losen its grip, we'll continue to build these spaces. We need them, as we thrive through them.
